Shabbat Balak 2011

This has been a spectacular week for weather in Wisconsin! The sun has been shining, the temperature has been almost perfect every day and, as we have said over the summer…there are only two mosquitoes in the whole camp!!!

Moshavah had another round of successful trips this week. They spent almost an hour this morning with the Village Manager of Lac La Belle, asking really insightful questions about water supply and usage. They learned where the water comes from, how OSRUI is affected by each person’s use, and what the future might bring given that water is such a vital resource.

Kallah and Tzofim began their new sessions with an awful lot of great energy and enthusiasm. Campers from both units have been out waterskiing and tubing. Both units also have discovered more of American Jewish history, with the reproduction of Ellis Island and campers getting their own “passports.”

Tiferet spent last Sunday at the Milwaukee Art Museum and learned how to translate visual art into music, dance and theater…and back again!

Chalutzim has discovered a new way of recognizing those campers who speak Hebrew all day…they become the King or Queen for a Day. Last night the campers in Sue Nadel’s discussion group brought a truly remarkable program to the rest of the unit, focused on bonding together and learning how to overcome cliques. The leadership shown here was clearly important.

We have had a wonderful visit this week with Solly Kane, currently an aide at the Religious Action Center in Washington, who will be joining us in September as assistant director.

Wishing you a great Shabbat!
