SHABBAT PINCHAS 2014

We are all sensitive to the circumstances in Israel.  Our summer shlichim (staff who come as counselors and specialists from Israel) are certainly feeling the distance from home, but they, along with our Chalutzim campers, created a fabulous program last night for the whole camp.  FestiKayitz (Hebrew for Summerfest) brought talent from a wide variety of campers from all of our units to the camp stage.  Peppered with humor about Noah’s Ark, the Chalutzim campers talked about the Jewish people’s evolution until today. Wonderful talent and good fun!  And now the Chalutzim campers are preparing for Yom Horim and next week’s big canoe trip.

This was the second event this week that brought the whole camp together…the first was the Star Spangled Mesibah (party) sponsored by Tiferet – our arts camp.  Their theme was FROZEN, which all of our campers knew pretty much by heart.  They invited another whole group of campers to be on stage with their wonderful talents and then the whole camp followed the candles down to the Bayit lawn, where we all laid back and watched the fireworks that lit up the sky.

Right now our Kallah campers are putting on their bathing suits and getting ready for a great lunch pool party…personal pizzas and lots of sunshine.  The other day Kallah and Kibbutz HaTzofim campers had huge protests – Kallah demanding recycling bins (yes they have them) and Tzofim wanting composting bins, which they also have now.

Speaking of Tzofim….they had a really fun and educational trip to a nearby dairy farm.  They learned about the process of how milk comes to the grocery store shelf and many of them tried their hands at milking some of the cows themselves.  (No, they didn’t taste it since it doesn’t come out of the cow already pasteurized.)

Moshavah finally dried out after their trips rock climbing, hiking, biking and canoeing.  Along the way they were in the rain for much of a day but held out really well. They are joining the rest of camp (except Chalutzim) in packing up for their last Shabbat and going home after weeks of being part of what goes on in camp.

We really are looking forward to welcoming them all back next summer!!!
