By Becca Levy, Rosh Eidah of Tiferet

This week was very exciting here in Tiferet! The chanichim (campers) continued their work in studio, beginning to gear up for our final showcase in just a little over a week. On Wednesday, we took a break from our normal schedule and went to Nagawaukee park for a day of relaxation, fun, and to look at our art in a new light!

We began our day at the park with an hour and a half of studio, where the chanichim used their new surroundings to explore their arts from a whole new perspective. Digital arts worked on film and photography outside, visual arts found inspiration in nature, music enjoyed playing and practicing in open spaces, dance drew movement from the environment, and drama worked on filling space with their voices and bodies!

After studio, we enjoyed a picnic lunch of hot dogs grilled by our very own madrichim (counselors) and moomchim (specialists) as we shared our work from the beginning of the day. Then, we spent some time having menucha (rest) at the park, reading, writing letters, playing card games, and other activities. After menucha we split up into Ivrit Kitot (Hebrew classes) for a special Ivrit lesson in the park, where the chanichim learned about many different topics including colors, numbers, body parts, and more. From Ivrit we played field games such as relay races, water balloon toss, sunflower seed spitting competition and more! We ended the day with a massive water fight, packed up our stuff, and got back on the bus to camp. It was a fantastic field trip!

Today, Tiferet was split up into teams for Maccabiah, or color wars, for another day of fun! Then tomorrow we have our regular activities until the evening and Saturday when we’ll have a restful Shabbat to gear up for Marathon Week! The chanichim have been working extremely hard in each of their studios to prepare for the final showcase, and the energy in the Eidah (unit) leading into next week makes it clear that this particular group of chanichim will put on a show no one will soon forget!
