by Itai Hacham, Chalutzim Rosh Eidah

Going into our fourth day of Chalutzim, all of us madrichim (counselors) and chanichim (campers) are having a great time. Opening day started really well.  From the moment that we welcomed the chanichim, we started using the most special thing in Chalutzim -Hebrew. After dividing the eidah (unit) into tzrifim (cabins), everyone took the first Hebrew test of the summer (which will be compared to a test we do at the end of the summer, to see how much the chanichim have improved their knowledge of Hebrew).  The chanichim have started learning Hebrew twice everyday, and already we can see some improvement!  The chanichim have also chosen chugim (electives), which they will participate in for the next few weeks.

We are also fortunate to have our Segel (faculty), Rabbi Reni Dickman (Sinai Temple, Michigan City, IN) and Lori Sagarin (Educator, Temple Beth Israel, Skokie, IL) who are doing a great job helping the staff and teaching the chanichim.

All I can say is that the future is very bright for Chalutzim 2011!
