Food at Camp

At OSRUI we know that what kids eat matters. We aim for a balance of kid-friendly foods and healthy options. Our priority is to provide nutritious food that gives our campers a range of options and the energy to fuel their brains and bodies for days filled with fun camp activities!

Overview

Meals are an important part of camp life at OSRUI. We sayHamotzi(blessing over the meal) before we eat and join together inBirkat Hamazon(grace after meals) after we eat. We strive to have options at meals so that everyone can find something they are excited about and our staff help ensure that all campers are well-fed and dietary needs are met. In addition to meals, we generally have snacks twice a day to help keep us going in the midst of a busy day at camp!

We gather together by unit in theChadar Ochel (dining hall), or in our outdoor dining pavilion (for Tzofim and Moshavah)for meals. Most meals are served buffet-style. Our youngest campers eat by bunk and older campers have the chance to eat with peers in their unit.

Something for Everyone

Our goal is to accommodate the food needs of each individual in our community. We’ve had campers with nut, fish, dairy, soy, and gluten allergies, and many other dietary needs. We always offer a vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free option.

In addition to the main entree at meals, there are always side dishes, hand fruit, a build-your-own-salad bar, options to make a sandwich (Wowbutter, SunButter, and jelly), and, for our younger units, cereal. Lunch and dinner also feature a salad bar and a pasta bar. Our staff make sure that all campers are eating throughout the day and work with campers to make sure there is something that meets their needs.
