by Hannah Altshuler, Assistant Art Specialist

Shalom! My name is Hannah Altshuler, and I am the assistant art specialist at OSRUI this summer. I recently had my first painting exhibition and graduated from University of Illinois with degrees in painting and art education. Starting this fall I will be student teaching art classes in Chicago.

This summer, there are going to be endless adventures that begin in the Mercaz Omanut (art center). Each eidah will have opportunities to participate in chugim that allow chanichim to explore a special area of their choice. For those who are interested in visual arts, I, along with the other art specialists, will be leading engaging art projects that teach a conceptual and/or technical method for constructing works of art. More importantly, however, the art projects will allow campers to learn more about themselves in addition to the many blessings of our lives, including the importance of our Jewish camp community and the beautiful nature that surrounds us.

My goal is to provide and share a rich visual language that gives campers the means to investigate and express ideas about themselves, their environment, and their culture.  I am excited to introduce a range of fun art materials, from clay and pastel to acrylic and oil paint, while developing inspiration from a wide variety of sources: from each other, from other historical or contemporary artists, or simply from the experience of walking outside. My love and passion for the arts started here at camp where I was immersed in overflowing outlets of ideas and creativity. I love sharing my creative spark with the chanichim of OSRUI and spreading it throughout camp.
