by Emily Schwartz, Tiferet Rosh Eidah

Tiferet started our day today a little bit differently, with “T’fiFLOAT” and a breakfast pool party! It was a water adventure morning. The boys tzrif went waterskiing and did their own T’filot (services) down by the lake, while all the girls did T’filot on the way to and at the pool. This included dancing to “Mayim, Mayim” and getting into the pool when we sang the Mi Chamocha. Rabbi Emily Segal told the story of Nachshon, the first Israelite to step into the water when Moses parted the sea. After services, we splished and splashed and danced all around!

Tiferet chanichim have been delving deeper into their art studios, which I hear from so many is their favorite part of the day.

In Drama Studio they have been focusing on character interviews in relation to our limud theme, Kohelet. Part of Kohelet is how everything has been done before, yet everything old is new. Therefore, the chanichim had to create characters to be interviewed and then immediately forgotten. It is the process of creating that is important, not the character itself.

In Music Studio, the musicians have been working diligently on their original compositions. They also engage in “instrument swap,” where chanichim break off into pairs and teach each other something new on a new instrument. Today, madricha Noa Gutterman taught about different types of vocal styles including musical theatre, opera, and pop, with beautiful demonstrations of all three.

Visual Arts Studio has centered on disposable consuming, and they have found ways to use an eraser as a tool to add to a piece rather than take something away. Tonight the Visual Artists are doing a special meditation drawing and dinner at what’s called the “Bowl,” part of camp in a big field surrounded by trees where it is very easy to connect with nature.

The Dance Studio has just begun learning one of their final performance pieces, “Echad Mi Yodea.” It is an incredibly complicated and moving dance, which so far they have done very well with.

The chanichim are doing and creating amazing things in Tiferet. I am proud to work with them, and can’t wait to see where they go from here!
