by Tessa Robinson, Tzofim Rosh Eidah (Unit Head)

I am so excited to be starting Shavuah Hachanah (Staff Week) with my tzevet (staff)! Tzofim staff worked all last week with Mosh staff to build our physical community, but this  week is all about getting the tzevet ready for the community that will start next Monday when all of our chanichim (campers) arrive! Over the week, we are learning more about our campers and how to best take care of them.

As a group, we will discuss things from how to start and end the day in a positive way (think lots of music and enthusiasm for the morning, and calm for the evening), and how to make sure that chanichim remember to brush their teeth and how to send the right items to laundry, to knowing how each tzevet member can impact the community of Tzofim. We will also go over how to ensure each and every child’s safety, both physical and emotional, to make sure that everyone in Tzofim has a great camp experience. Additionally, we will spend time with the aquatics staff for orientation about the pool and waterfront.

We will also do a lot of fun things this week, including naming the appliances in the mitbach (kitchen) and coming up with what to call the tents. Previous names for appliances have included imaginary places like Middle Earth and Neverland, and tent names have been anything from farm animals, different kinds of shoes, or even names of previous Rashei Eidot! Coming up with the little things that will be part of our summer is a lot of fun for the staff.

We are all looking so forward to the next week and preparing for the chanichim to get here. Kibbutz HaTzofim will be an incredible place this summer, with amazing madrichim (counselors) and what we expect to be a great group of chanichim! We can’t wait to see your kids on the 18th and welcome them to our community!

Tessa Robinson is the Rosh Eidah (Unit Head) of Kibbutz HaTzofim. This is her sixth year on staff at OSRUI and second summer as Tzofim Rosh Eidah. She is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec.
