by Daniel Shore, Kallah Rosh Eidah (Unit Head)

Our first full day was packed with fun…the first campers to jump in the pool, our first rotation of chugim (specialty activities that include archery, filmmaking, photography, dance, cooking, art, theater, and music), and plenty of making sure we had on our hats and water in our water bottles!

We also began exploring ideas straight from the book of Genesis as Abraham and Sarah (or at least counselors dressed up as them) helped us think more about how we can continue welcoming each other and treat each other with respect as we live together in our Kallah community. We’ll keep searching for more great lessons from the beginning of the torah as we explore Kashrut, Shalom Bayit, standing up for what is right, and other Jewish values.

The faculty members for Kallah Aleph are helping us to do this. They are Rabbi Batsheva Appel from KAM Isaiah Israel in the Hyde Park-Kenwood neighborhood of Chicago and Mandy Thalhammer from Beth Tikvah in Hoffman Estates, IL.

There’s plenty more excitement to come as we continue trying out lots of the activities camp has to offer, ranging from water skiing to climbing the Alpine Tower. Plus, we get to join in the fun that you can only find in Kallah, like Face Paint Friday which is right around the corner!

I am so happy that your kids are with us this session and can’t wait to check in again to tell you what we’ve been up to!

Have a wonderful Wednesday,

Shore
