SHABBAT CHUKAT 2012

It’s been quite a week at Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute … all of us have niftily avoided the possible crunch of the sun … yesterday, one of the hottest days of the year, worked out  amazingly well.  Our staff kept a close eye on the campers making sure that everyone wore a hat and carried a water bottle, along with being slathered with sunscreen.  Our Health Center was so impressed that Paula, our Head Nurse, sent out a congratulatory note on behalf of the Health Center to all of the unit heads that is being circulated to our entire staff.  It was a day of swimming in the pool, smiling down the Slip ‘n Slide and being inside air conditioned buildings. Everyone we saw was in a great mood and happy to have had a different kind of day.

Today is Face Paint Friday in Kallah and yesterday was, of course, high sock Thursday in Tzofim.  Ask your Kallah campers about the Ice Cream Box Social when they get home, and check in with Tzofim campers who tie dyed with Kallah and had lunch with Avodah Corps the other day (no, they didn’t have to clean the whole camp afterward).  If you checked out the photos of Kallah Tzofim Day on Bunk1, you might have noticed the beautiful “lawn ornaments” the campers placed behind Jerry and Paula’s house.  They woke up surprised and delighted by the thoughtfulness and creativity of our campers. (Shore and Tessa removed them the next morning!)

Tiferet had a great day at the Milwaukee Art Museum viewing the Posters of Paris and the many other exhibits in this remarkable facility.  After that they had a picnic lunch and off to a movie….the selection was Brave and they loved it.

Chalutzim had Yom Avodah and they created an all unit Tallit which promises to be a wonderful art piece.  In addition, they did work on their outdoor Ark and finished the day off with a great mural on the side of one of their central buildings.

Moshavah came back from their four different outdoor three-day trips in which they hiked, biked, canoed and rock climbed all over the State of Wisconsin. They enjoyed the beauty of nature and discovered skills that many of them never knew they had.

Have a wonderful Shabbat and we look forward to the same!
