By Naomi Gamoran, Tiferet Rosh Eidah

It has been a wonderful first week in Tiferet! The chanichim (campers) have amazed me with their incredible personalities and artistic talent!

Our day begins with t’filot (services),where we join together in our outdoor Beit T’filah (sanctuary). After breakfast we head to studio to work on our art. While each studio works on their specific art medium — drama, dance, visual arts, or music — all the studios share a common theme on which they base their projects. The limud (Jewish studies) theme this session in Tiferet is the 5 Megillot, which includes the books of Esther and Ruth. Each studio has used this theme in different ways, but they all focus on the idea of journeys, heroes, and self-reflection.

After studio, the chanichim swim at the lake or the pool where they enjoy swim lessons as well as free swim. The rest of the day includes lunch, rest time, showers, and more studio. The chanichim also have chosen a special chug (activity), which they enjoy as well.

Studio seems to be the favorite part of the day for many of the chanichim. They enjoy learning from the moomchim (specialists) and working on their already remarkable artistic talents!

Nadia, a chanicha (camper) in dance studio, says that she loves learning how to move her body in different ways, working on things she already knows, and increasing her flexibility. Allison, who is also in dance studio, says she loves dance because she is able to increase her flexibility and strength.

Hannah, a chanicha in music studio, says that she loves learning new improv skills in music. She enjoys the individual practice time as well as group time where the chanichim get to work together to create musical pieces.

Rachel, a chanicha in visual arts studio, says that she loves how she is able to express what she feels through her art. In visual arts she is learning about self reflection by creating a self portrait.

Sophie, a chanicha in drama, says she likes learning new skills in drama and improving skills she already has. She says that until drama studio, she didn’t like working on improvisation. Now, she loves it!

The Tiferet chanichim have had a wonderful first week at camp.  I can’t wait for the next three weeks!!!!
