SHABBAT MATOT/MASEI

It’s been a week with all kinds of excitement, not the least of which were the Maccabiah Games that took place with everyone in camp participating in a wide variety of activities.  These included the world’s largest Ga-Ga game, relay races at the pool, lots of boat races on Lac La Belle, meshuganah games of all kinds, making up songs and banners and cheers – oh, don’t forget the absolutely silent lunch with a visit by President Abraham Lincoln.  Teams, composed of kids from all units, were dressed in accordance with the mood of the day in red, white, blue and silver and the day ended with a race up the Alpine Tower.  After all of these competitions, it was the red team that prevailed!!

KALLAH had a great Sports Night.  They have been involved in all of their chugim, ranging from photography to media to the arts and even more sports!  The weather nicely cooperated most of the week so that we could spend much of our time outdoors enjoying the sun.

KIBBUTZ HATZOFIM is off making decorative table coverings for Shabbat, after a week of taking care of the sheep and goats and chickens along with their growing garden.  Captain Tov and Magical Moses came to visit as part of the Jewish Superheroes learning, creating a great deal of excitement throughout the week.  This morning breakfast was lots of great food with bagels for all.  The kids had readymade cheers for Bagel Day!

TIFERET continued with their work on the art projects they have been engaging in throughout the session on their theme of the Five Megillot.  We are delighted that Ohad Sha’altiel has arrived from Israel to pick up on his unique teaching skills in visual arts. He is the inspiration for the arts collaborations between the various groups and the campers are enjoying that immensely. We just posted a video on last week’s trip to the Milwaukee Art Museum – you can see for yourselves how much they enjoyed it.

MOSHAVAH
returned from their second of three trips with lots of enthusiasm and great reports from all.  They are divided between biking, hiking, canoeing and rock climbing, with kids switching between the various trips each time.  They were really glad to be able to send out their laundry after the trips. Their study team has focused on Jewish approaches to life’s behaviors and right now they are working on a debate about “eating Jewishly.”

CHALUTZIM started the week with a terrific pool party and Monday were off to a nearby park with a surprise visit to the movies where they saw Monsters University.  They are working hard on Festikayitz (our own Summerfest) coming up next week.  They will also get to meet Tal Sabah from the Jewish Agency with an update on Israel.

Everyone is getting ready for Judaica Bowl, this coming Sunday night.  It’s a great event and every unit will have their own team.

Live Streaming the Mesibah!  Fireworks at camp will be right after Shabbat tomorrow night, following the Star Spangled Mesibah, our wonderful talent show sponsored by Tiferet.  We’re trying something new this year .. we’ll be live-streaming the show, so parents can watch along with all of us!  Parents were emailed the link to the channel and the password; it’s also posted on the OSRUI Parents Facebook page.  The show will also be videotaped for upload in next week.

Shabbat Shalom to all,
