By Sam Sterling, Kallah Rosh Eidah
What a great week we’ve had in Kallah! Since last Wednesday the Chanichim have been experiencing it all. We had our first Shabbat, some wonderful all camp events and our first Face-Paint Friday.
Camp decided that the best way to celebrate the 4th of July would be an all-camp Maccabiah games. The different Eidot divided all of their Chanichim into four teams: red, white, blue and silver. These four teams competed in athletic and artistic competitions. The day ended with a camp-wide mishugenah race in which all the chanichim had a part. At the end of the day it was the red team that won the games, but every participant had a great time and that’s what counts!
After a busy Thursday, a nice Shabbat was needed. Per camp tradition, we feasted on chicken, potatoes, veggies and challah for dinner, this was followed by an enthusiastic Shabbat Shira. Exhausted, we headed to bed knowing the next day would be full of chocolate milk, doughnuts, Israeli dancing, swimming at the lake and so much more. However, this past Saturday was a unique one.
Every year Tiferet puts on a talent show in the first half of the summer called Mesibah. This year the theme was based on Dr. Seuss’s Horton Hears a Who. The show was fittingly titled Jerry Hears a Who! The acts were phenomenal and a few of our very own Kallah chanichim starred in it! And if that wasn’t enough, the night ended with a firework show that the kids loved.
The next few days are going to be just as great. Wednesday is Yom Mayim (Water day). The kids will start the day by enjoying our 100 ft. water slide, followed up by a pool party later in the afternoon. It will be a great way to cool off and have fun! We also have Festikayitz (summer fest) coming up at camp. This is another talent show but this one is put on by the Israelis at camp, and the acts are all related to Israel in some way.
After all this is done, the kids will definitely need a good Shabbos rest, which luckily is just around the corner. The last few days of Kallah Bet are going to leave the Chanichim with some great memories that I hope last a lifetime. We have had a great first week and a half and I know that the last few days will be just as amazing!
