by Amelia Chinn, Gesher Rosh Eidah
Today, July 23rd, is a beautiful day here in Oconomowoc; the sunny sky and light breeze make for a perfect start to our second full week of the session. Exactly seven days ago marked the beginning of our journey, and as the Gesher campers arrived I knew it was going to be an amazing group of campers. They were energetic and excited, reuniting with old friends while at the same time making new ones. After an enthusiastic welcome from our Director, Jerry Kaye, and Associate Director, Susan Alexander, the craziness of camp began, and we have been going full steam since then.
The campers have been kept very busy; between swimming at the pool, playing sports and doing chugim (electives), they are always doing something, and our t’filot (services) and limud (Jewish studies) sessions have been filled with wonderfully interesting and thoughtful participation from the campers. A warm streak sparked a Yom Mayim (water day) for OSRUI last Thursday, and the kids enjoyed not only swimming at the lake and pool, but also a slip ‘n slide as well as several full unit water fights and air-conditioned activities. Needless to say, the kids have been having a blast.
This Thursday will be the first of our three field trips this session, and I couldn’t be more excited. More about that in my next blog!
The session is already exceeding all of our expectations with fun and memories being created. I can’t wait for the rest of the week.
