By Sam Sterling, Kallah Rosh Eidah
Last week was a great first week in Machena Kallah! The chanichim (campers) had the opportunity to participate in some great eidah (unit) and all-camp programming, including the Judaica Bowl. The Kallah Judaica Bowl team made us all proud as they had a great comeback victory against the chanichim from Tzofim. The chanichim also enjoyed watching some of their madrichim (counselors) participate against other madrichim.
The first part of the week saw very high temperatures, so we adjusted our schedule to help keep the kids cool. The morning started with an hour and a half of swimming followed by lunch and m’nucha (rest period) in Port Hall (which is air conditioned). The afternoon was just as warm so the kids took turns going to the lake and going down a 100ft Slip ‘n Slide! After that the counselors led an “impromptu” water fight on our way to sports. Once at sports the kids had the opportunity to play mud gaga or hang out indoors. Most of the kids played mud gaga and afterwards it was time for some much needed showers. It was a great water day!
Another highlight from the week was Yom McDonald had a Farm. This was our first Yom day (dress-up day) and all the kids dressed up as either farmers or farm animals. To make this day even better our tochnit erev (evening program) was all farm related. The chanichim took turns having tractor rides, going to a pretend farmers market for snack and making animal ears. The day was a success and helped prepare the kids for some of the other Yom days that we will have.
Kallah Gimmel has been off to a great start so far, and there is so much more left for the kids to experience. Between Oconomostock (an all-camp talent show), Maccabiah (color wars) and so much more, the rest of the summer will be a blast for the chanichim, and is sure to fly by quickly.
