By Becca Levy, Rosh Eidah of Tiferet
Shalom!
We have had a fantastic first couple of days in Tiferet! The chanichim (campers) have already begun to show us and each other their amazing artistic talents and incredible personalities!
In Tiferet, we begin or day with Hitamlut (morning exercises) where we play games and sing songs to make sure everyone is wide awake and ready for a day full of camp fun. From there we go to our outdoor Beit T’flilah (sanctuary) and join together forT’filot (services) and from there we go to breakfast.
After breakfast, the chanichim go to studio where they work in one of our five specialty areas: drama, dance, music, visual art, and digital media! While the five studios are certainly different mediums of art, they share a common theme, which unites the projects that the chanichim are working on for the session. The limud (study) theme of Tiferet Aleph is Sephardic Judaism. Each studio is coming at this limud topic from a different angle, but they are all focusing on learning about Sephardic Judaism as a very rich subculture of Judaism.
From studio, the chanichim swim at the lake or the pool where they have swim lessons, free swim, and get to try many different waterfront activities such as tubing, pontooning, and kayaking! The rest of our day includes showers, lunch, menucha (rest time), Ivrit Kitot (Hebrew classes), and then more studio! Thechanichim have also chosen an additional chug (activity), among those are horseback riding, photography, creative writing, and so much more, which they participate in daily!
After talking with many chanichim it seems that almost everyone’s favorite part of the day is studio. They are having a great time learning from the moomchim (specialists) and improving on their already outstanding artistic talents!
Last night, we also started working on Tiferet’s Mesibah. The Mesibah is a 4th of July all-camp talent show, hosted by Tiferet, (well really this year it’s on the fifth) where the chanichim all get a chance to perform in songs and dances for the whole camp!
The Tiferet chanichim have had a phenomenal start to the summer, and I can’t wait to experience all of camp and Tiferet with them for the next four weeks!
