By Danny Altkorn, Moshavah Rosh Eidah
Moshavah Aleph 2014 is off to a great start! As hard as the weather tried, it couldn’t dampen our spirits, and all of our activities are already rolling. We started off our limud (Jewish studies) program, “Community and Covenant,” Monday night by playing a few team-building games with our newly formed va’adot (small groups). Everyone had a great time and we all got to know each other much better.
We have enjoyed all sorts of activities that camp has to offer, such as swimming, sports and chugim (electives). On Tuesday night we had Erev Sport (Sports Night) and the whole unit participated in a big game of “matzo ball” (similar to dodgeball). Some chanichim (campers) have already climbed Etgar (our 5-story climbing tower), while others have had the opportunity to improve their Hebrew at the Merkaz Ivrit (Hebrew Center). Throughout the next three weeks everyone will have the chance to try out these activities and many more.
The biggest news in Mosh, however, is that we leave for our first tiyul (trip) on Sunday!! We will split up into groups and go on our four amazing tiyulim: canoeing, biking, hiking and rock climbing. As a tzevet (staff), we are incredibly excited to share these amazing experiences with our chanichim, and hope that they will grow to love the tiyulim as much as we do. We are also celebrating Shabbat for the first time together this week and will be having some well-deserved m’nucha (rest) after a long, but very fun, week. All of the Madrichim (counselors) agree that this is an amazing group of chanichim and we are excited to spend the next three weeks with them!
