SHABBAT KORACH  2014

We have been working on the plans to build an ark this past week because we’ve had so much rain, but it looks like the dove has finally appeared and is ready to fly around camp!  Tzofim probably saw the most rain, but Moshavah held their own as well.  We did bring some of the campers clothing over to the laundromat to dry it out, which made our campers really happy. But looking out our window right now, the sun is shining as we get ready for our first Shabbat of the summer.

Speaking of really happy, campers all over camp watched as the Israeli Cash Cab, driven by Itai Shabtai, our rosh mishlachat (head of the Israeli delegation), drove around camp picking up one or two kids at a time.  Itai took them for short rides in his converted golf cart and taught them a few things about Israel.  Camp buildings are peppered with signs that exhibit facts about Israel…just about everywhere a camper might turn.

Lots of these signs are on the windows of our new addition to the Mirpa’ah (Health Center).  Our rashei eidot (unit heads) report that the renovation to the building has made medication distribution and camper care a whole lot easier and more pleasant. We are so happy that our madrichim (counselors) are taking such good care of our kids that no one has spent a night in the Mirpa’ah since our summer began.

There’s been lots of activity at camp this week.  Campers are riding horses, water skiing and swinging on the high ropes course, in addition to arts, drama, sport of all kinds and swimming, canoeing, tubing and lots more.  We hope you’ve been keeping up with all the news through our blogs.  Here are some highlights from each unit.

Moshavah is getting ready for their first round of trips – hiking, biking, rock climbing and canoeing.  They’ll be leaving for their adventures on Sunday and we look forward to hearing about the trips next week.

Tiferet is working in their various studios (drama, dance, instrumental music, visual arts, and digital media) and getting ready for their presentation of the Star Spangled Mesibah during our Independence Day celebration.  Talented campers from every unit will perform for the whole camp community.

Chalutzim campers are doing really well with their Hebrew learning.  They are getting used to their counselors speaking rak Ivrit (only Hebrew) to them.  Next week they are planning Yom Avodah, a day of work that will beautify their unit.

Kallah and Tzofim campers had their first special days in their units – High Sock Thursday in Tzofim (love those knee socks!) and FacePaint Friday in Kallah.  Sunday night they’ll have their first joint Judaica Bowl – they are prepping with each other to see how well they can work together.

We hope that your week promises to be as great as ours in Oconomowoc!

Shabbat Shalom,
