By Max Antman and Libby Fisher, Rashei Eidah of Kallah
Week two is well underway in Kallah Aleph, and the fun has only intensified since Opening Day! During the past week, we went swimming in the agam (lake) and breicha (pool), played sports, and went to our chugim (specialty activities). One of the best parts of Kallah Aleph is that our chanichim (campers) get to try a different chug everyday!
We also had an Erev Tzrif (cabin night) in which each tzrif planned a special program to do with their chanichim. One tzrif (cabin) went on a boat ride with Jerry Kaye, and the chanichim loved asking him all about his experiences and stories from the past at OSRUI. We also had a bunch of other fun tochniot erev (evening programs) this week, and some of the highlights included a program about Israeli culture, and song session around the campfire with s’mores.
On Monday night, we competed in the Judaica Bowl with Tzofim! This is one of our favorite events at OSRUI. It brought together two units of similar age groups for a competition of Judaic and Israeli trivia. Representatives of the two eidot (units) are combined into different teams, each categorized by a specific color, and asked questions about Judaism, Jewish culture and Israel. The chanichim loved cheering on their friends during the contest, and it turned out to be an amazing night!
This week promises to bring about even more excitement and fun in Kallah! Today we are having our second full eidah pool party, something the chanichim are very much looking forward to. We are also participating in the first Maccabiah Games (color wars) of the summer, an all-camp competition that requires not only the athletic talents of our chanichim, but their artistic and intellectual talents as well. The contest will consist of many different arts competitions, sports and more; it will truly be an amazing day!
It seems like only yesterday that the chanichim got here, and although time is racing past, we are having a blast! This next week in Kallah Aleph will be even better than the last!
