SHABBAT CHUKAT  2014

What a truly amazing week here at OSRUI for all of our campers!

Chalutzim worked really hard during Yom Avodah (work day).  They not only cleaned up the entire area but also created some new spaces in their unit.  Of course, they continued with their Hebrew studies, and more and more of them are really trying to speak Hebrew all day.  It is truly amazing to see this progress.

Kallah and Kibbutz HaTzofim became archeologists, digging through the field to find lots of artifacts from Jewish history as well as the history of OSRUI.  It was great fun and they learned more about themselves at the same time.  All of this happened while they were sailing, tubing swimming, playing sports and just enjoying themselves with theirmadrichim (counselors) madrichim – clap!  Ask your children about the sandwich method of learning Hebrew when they get home. Right now many of them are packing and getting ready to return to home to you after a wonderful two weeks.

TIferet continues on with their creative work.  This week they took a field trip to the Milwaukee Museum of Art where our specialists took them on a guided tour through the wonders of fine art.  After that they spent the afternoon at the movies seeing How to Train Your Dragon II.  After a great day filled with the museum, the movies, and of course, popcorn, they returned to camp with huge smiles on their faces.

Moshavah took off for their first set of trips canoeing, rock climbing, hiking and biking.  It was really wonderful to watch them at all of these various endeavors, some for the first time.  Campers had to learn how to take exactly the right amount of gear and clothing and that vegetarian meals really taste good – even for kids who like burgers and hot dogs! They are now getting ready for their next round of trips next week, each one on a different expedition.

The week was capped off by a truly outstanding Maccabiah right here at camp.  Campers were divided into four different teams, Wind, Earth, Fire and Water, and each was represented by a different color that they all wore fromWednesday night when the announcement was made through the end of the day yesterday.  Kids were leapfrogging up and down Bayit Hill, playing basketball and soccer, working on art projects demonstrating the theme, racing in the pool, and climbing the tower to the finish!!! Everyone really had a fabulous time!

After this wonderful week we are all ready for a restful Shabbat.

Shabbat Shalom from all of us at OSRUI!
