By Becca Levy, Rosh Eidah of Tiferet
This week in Tiferet, we are spending a lot of time preparing for the Star Spangled Mesibah, an all camp talent show! Each year Tiferet chanichim (campers) have the opportunity to host the Mesibah, presenting a top-secret theme, skits, songs, and dances between each of the talent acts. This year’s theme is still a secret, known only by those in Tiferet, at least until we present the Mesibah to all of camp this upcoming Saturday, July 5th!
We ended our second week at camp with a restful Shabbat, followed by Satruday Night Folk Night, a tradition in Tiferet where we have a campfire with smores and sing songs all night long! Then we transitioned into Havdallah, marking the official half-way point of Tiferet Aleph and bringing us into week three!
Sunday night, we jumped right into Mesibah rehearsal with the whole Eidah (unit), where the chanichim learned the final dance number that they will perform together to end the entire Mesibah. The two all-Eidah numbers are truly a joy to watch! Then, on Monday night, we split the chanichim into smaller groups to do something never done before for Mesibah! Instead of having three big numbers done by everyone, we split up the Eidah into smaller groups to learn 3 songs that will be throughout the Mesibah. While many chanichim chose to be in those smaller numbers, there were also those who chose to help prepare for Mesibah in a different and crucial way by helping to create the set and props. All of this together means that this year will mark OSRUI’s first ever Musical Mesibah!
Tonight (Tuesday) night, we take a short break from Mesibah rehearsal to celebrate erev tzrif (cabin night)! All the tzrifim will get together after dinner for an evening of bonding with the other chanichim and madrichim (counselors) in their tzrif. Tonight’s tzrif nights, planned by the madrichim for their tzrifim are sure to be amazing! One tzrif plans on going to the pool, while another has a spa night, the boy’s tzrif is having what they’re counselors call “an evening of brotherly festivities” with our Program Coordinator Ben and a member of our inclusion team, (a different) Ben. I even hear that one tzrif may be trying to pull a prank on me tonight!
This week has just begun and we have already done so much! On top of Mesibah rehearsal, all of our regular camp activities are still happening and each day is filled with fun surprises! From Mesibah, to tubing, to Etgar, and chugim, each chanich has something (or many things) that they can look forward to!
