We just finished our first round of trips in Moshavah Bet 2014 and they were an amazing success! Not even one day of heat could slow us down and everyone had a fantastic time.

I had the pleasure of going on backpacking (hiking with a large pack). We hiked 16 miles of the Ice Age Trail in the Kettle Moraine State Forest, experiencing many different landscapes and environments. We traversed majestic forests and scenic prairies, seeing all sorts of teva (nature). The first two nights we stayed in backpacking shelters, wooden structures along the trail that provide a welcome respite from the elements, and the last night we pitched sometents and had a more traditional camping experience. We even spent one night with the Women’s Hiking Tiyul (trip), and everyone joined in swapping stories about the first half of their respective trips while looking forward to the next half.

DSCN4518One of my favorite parts of the tiyulim, though, is the food. Put simply, trip food is awesome. On this particular trip, we had two of our traditional dinners: Lentil Stew (my personal favorite) and TVP Pasta Marinara. We also introduced what could be a new recipe to add to our repertoire, a teriyaki stir-fry. For breakfast we had hearty oatmeal or granola, and for lunch, the simple yet delicious peanut butter and jelly on a tortilla.

We have a very eventful week planned while we’re back at camp and I can’t wait to see how much everyone has grown since we finished our tiyul!
