By Max Antman, Rosh Eidah of Gesher

These past two weeks of Gesher have flown by! We got into our routine rather quickly, but there have been many surprises along the way, such as an Erev Tzahal (army night), and two field trips. Yesterday, our eidah (unit) had the opportunity to go to a Dairy Farm out in Cambridge WI, and it was an amazing experience. We divided up into three groups and milked cows, held chicks and learned about agricultural farming. The kids had the opportunity to interact with many different farm animals, including cows, sheep, goats and even a pig, while at the same time learning about the lives and work of people very different than themselves. Afterwards, we drove to Watertown and had ice cream at the delicious Mullens Dairy and Eatery. The owner invited us into the back and explained how the ice cream gets made everyday, and that made it so much tastier when they actually got to eat it.

Our all camp Maccabiah games are tomorrow, and with Shabbat right around the corner and our final field trip on Sunday, the campers have a ton to look forward to. We just switched our chugim (specialty activities), so the campers are able to explore different aspects of camp and meet new people. As we come to the end of week 3, I couldn’t be happier with the way our session has been going. The campers have formed friendships that will remain for years to come, and their willingness to try new things here at OSRUI has been tremendous. I am extremely excited for the next week and a half we have together; with one final field trip, the Gesher carnival and much more, this is shaping up to be one of the best sessions Gesher has ever had!
