FullSizeRender2-768x1024Opening in Kallah has been awesome! The forecast for the day predicted rain so we were ready for just about anything. During the morning we welcomed the smiling chanichim (campers) (some familiar, many new!) and played games inside of the chadar ochel (dining hall). All the chanichim had a great time and it even cleared up enough in the afternoon for us to continue with our regular opening day schedule. We continued by helping the chanichim (campers) move into their tzrifim (cabins), their new homes for the next two weeks. We also had our introduction to limud (Jewish learning) for the session. Our wonderful segel (faculty) told the campers about the theme of our learning for the session, Bereshit (Genesis), and taught them a song that they wrote to go along with the topic (to the tune of All About that Bass by Meghan Trainor). We finished off the day with our very first tochnit erev (evening program) where we played group teambuilding and icebreaker games. It was a huge success!

Today we had our first limud session, where the chanichim will learn about Abraham and Sarah and the value of welcoming the stranger. They were greeted at breakfast this morning by Abraham and Sarah themselves!  Additionally, all of the chanichim went to the pool for the first time and getting to go to their first chug (elective activity). In Kallah Aleph each chanich will have the opportunity to try all of the activities such as cooking, archery, or drama, a different one each day.

The session is just beginning and Kallah has so much to look forward to! We have erev tzrif (cabin night) this evening where each tzrif gets to participate in its own exciting program and of course, we are all looking forward to our first Shabbat! We are excited to get into our routine but for right now we relish in the excitement of all of the first week activities.

For chanichim, new and old, it has been a day of firsts here at OSRUI and it will continue to be an exciting first few days in Kallah Aleph 2015!
