By Lizzy Scheinkopf, Rosh Eidah of Moshavah

It’s been a busy week in Moshavah and we just returned from our first tiyul (trip)! While the tiyulim are out of camp enjoying the Wisconsin wilderness, we continuously monitor the weather to make sure that our tiyulim are prepared, come rain or shine. We took precautionary measures and evacuated the biking tiyul on the second day of the trip, due to a storm system that spread throughout southern Wisconsin. Luckily, the weather cleared up that afternoon and the chanichim were able to go biking in Oconomowoc on both the second and third days of the trip. The group had lots of fun pitching their tents on top of Mosh hill!

Below, several of our chanichim (campers) reflect on their tiyulim:

“The hiking trip was a great experience for everyone on it. The challenge of hiking through the rigorous Ice Age Trail managed to get the group of three madrichim and eight chanichim to work as a kehilah kedosha (holy community), and to connect with teva (nature) throughout the trip. Despite the inclement weather, the chanichim were able to experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure full of wonderful sights such as: the Parnell Tower, the teva around the trail, and so much more. Furthermore, the hiking trip was a wonderful trip that provided deep connection with teva and Judaism.” -Jake A., Hiking

“On the biking trip, we had a great first day but on the second day, we were brought back to camp because of the weather. We still had fun at camp though! It was nice seeing the teva and we played a game that reminded me of family game night. The trip was tiring and short but it was a really fun experience.” -Danielle L., Biking

“On the first day of the canoe trip, we canoed so fast that we went on to our second campsite! We got to sleep in on the second day because we were already at our campsite and after getting a great deal of rest, we got breakfast in bed (which was basically the counselors bringing us bags of cereal into the tents but we still counted it as breakfast in bed). After that, we floated down the river to a natural waterfall which was beautiful and amazing. Then we went back to the campground and had dinner (lentil soup, yum!). Then, we watched the sunset on the beach. On the third day, we saw a bunch of cows. On the bank of the river there was a farm and the fence that held in the cows was broken, so there were many cows on the bank of the river. It was a once-in-a-lifetime trip and it was fun!” -Ryan P., Canoeing

“The rock climbing trip was a great experience, full of laughs and challenges. The first day we had five climbs set up with different difficulty levels, but they were super fun. Although it rained, we still managed to make the best of it by chilling by the beach and letting small fish nibble at our feet The last day was jam packed with rock climbing, repelling, and scrambling. Overall, the trip couldn’t have been better especially because we had such great counselors.” -Macy S., Rock Climbing

We look forward to another great week at camp, and can’t wait for the next tiyul!
