IMG_8467After waiting for weeks and months, or maybe even all year, the chanichim (campers) have finally arrived for Tzofim Bet 2015! The Session got started with a bang, chanichim were greeted by their new madrichim (counselors) who were ready with all sorts of fantastic games, sports and art activities to keep everyone busy.

Even the weather seemed to be cooperating, as the promised rain held off until after lunch, so everyone could get themselves and their luggage into their ohelim (tents) without getting wet.

Chanchim then had plenty of time to unpack and get used to their new home. Madrichim were right on hand to help anyone who might need a little extra help organizing, and make sure that everyone was adjusting well, and getting to meet new friends.

Anyone who got done unpacking early had some free time, a chance to meet their tent mates, and of course, have some fun on the famous Tzofim hill. Most chanichim took the opportunity to explore the Tzofim area, and walked around to check out the gan (garden) and refet (animal farm), which are just two of the things that make Tzofim so special.

After a delicious pasta dinner, campers had an activity to split them into va’adot. Va’adot are what we call the groups of chanichim that help with the various communal tasks here in Tzofim. These tasks include taking care of the refet and gan, and helping prepare and cleanup for our meals. Va’adot are the main way we transfer Tzofim from a regular camping experience to a true community experience.

Right as we were finishing our day a little rain started again, just in time for everyone to go back to the tents, curl up in a warm bed, and dream about the fantastic summer to come!  Here’s to a great session!
