SHABBAT MATOT 2015
It’s been a fabulous week at OSRUI! We welcomed nearly 400 campers on Tuesday and their sessions got off to a great start.
Kallah campers are enjoying their chugim (electives), sports, swimming, bonding with their cabinmates during cabin night and lots more. They all dressed up one day as if they were in the ‘70s … pity that their grandparents hadn’t put a few things in their suitcases! We are amazed at the extent to which the chanichim (campers) have exemplified our limud (Jewish learning) theme this session, middot (Jewish values) and are working at becoming a kehillah (community).
Kibbutz HaTzofim is working in the refet (farm) taking care of the chicks and goats and more. Others are weeding their gan (garden), getting lots of produce ready for salads next week. And of course they are enjoying sports and swimming and boating and climbing the Alpine Tower and all kinds of activities.
Gesher began the session by releasing all their fears, attached to biodegradable balloons, as they realized that with a strong community, we can all individually conquer our fears. In addition to all the regular chugim that OSRUI offers, Gesher campers chose from others led by their madrichim(counselors), including modular origami, health and fitness, and leadership. Yesterday they had a great pool party with Tiferet, having a blast and making lots of new friends. Their first field trip is next week – more about that later!
Moshavah started the week with a wonderful program dealing with leadership and what it means to be a leader. If you could see the ideas that they have posted on the walls of their ulam (porch or hall), you would be remarkably proud of your children. Beyond that they are preparing for their first tiyul (trip) next week when they go off to rock climb, hike, bike and canoe throughout Wisconsin.
After just a few days, Tiferet is already deep into their studios – dance, drama, music, visual arts, and digital arts. They will be exploring their limud theme,Kohelet – the book of Ecclesiastes – through the lens of their art as well as in group limud sessions. We can’t wait to see the amazing productions that they will bring to us. And of course there is plenty of time for swimming (and pool parties, see above), electives, cabin nights, and more fun.
Tour La’Agam has been preparing for their trip around Lake Michigan. First came an important lesson in bike maintenance. They’ve been biking every day, and enjoyed a trip to Honey Acres (a “Honey of a Museum”) as well as to the Trek bike factory to see how bicycles are made. Their trip around the lake begins Sunday morning, when the whole camp will see them off.
Chalutzim returned from their three-day canoe trip loving every minute of it…pretty tired but not too tired to enjoy the Thursday night concert by Billy Jonas. The whole camp loved “Bangin’ and Sangin’”!
Be sure to read our blog for daily updates on what’s going on at camp!
Shabbat Shalom from all of us at OSRUI,
