By Yonah London, Rosh Eidah of Kallah

Kallah Atid has been at OSRUI for over 24 hours now and they are so excited to be at camp! They have already gotten a chance to make s’mores, go swimming, learn a bit about Shabbat, and sing camp songs. And we, the tzevet (staff) of Kallah Atid, have discovered a few things about the atid (future) of camp in our short time with this group of chanichim (campers).

1. They’re smart!IMG_7003-300x200
Today when learning about Shabbat with our amazing segel (faculty), Dr. Anne Lidsky and Stephanie Fink, so many of the chanichim beautifully stated how Shabbat might be different from the rest of the week. Some of them also demonstrated some amazing knowledge of Ivrit (Hebrew) as we talked about the difference between things that are chol (ordinary) during the week, and things that are kadosh (holy) on Shabbat.

2. They smile. A lot!
Our first day was full of smiles and chatter between new friends and today has continued just the same. It has been so nice to watch each and every chanich/a as they discover camp and all of the special things OSRUI has to offer. This morning their faces lit up when they got to swim in the breicha (pool) for the very first time.

3. They have lots of energy!
It seems like there is nothing that can stop Kallah Atid as they bounce from activity to activity. Today they were extatic about our breakfast of French toast sticks, they were all enthusiastic and raising their hands to talk about Shabbat, and they couldn’t wait to jump in the pool!

We have had a truly amazing time learning songs from our song leader, Adam. We got to sing some songs around the campfire last night and started to learn some of camp’s favorite songs this morning and during our service. All of them have joined in with their voices and goofy hand motions and brought a ton of ruach (spirit) to our singing.

5. They are ready for anything!
Tonight, is the OSRUI carnival led by Gesher (one of camp’s older units). The chanichim are ready to play games and eat special snacks with the rest of camp just as they have been ready for every activity thus far!

We are looking forward to a great day at camp, and we are so excited to celebrate Shabbat together tomorrow.  Here’s to another awesome day!
