Let’s check in with our Rashei Eidot to see how the new session at OSRUI is going….

Naomi Segal (Kallah): And we are off (!) to an incredible Kallah Gimmel 2016 session! Yesterday, 80 enthusiastic chanichim (campers) moved into Kallah, which will be their home for the next three weeks. Although we have many returning campers, this summer will be filled with new and exciting experiences for everyone here in Kallah. Last night, we all prayed in the new Kallah Beit T’filah for the first time and then learned about our awesome madrichim (counselors). This morning, we each partook in creating a physical web that symbolized how as Jews we are all connected to one another. Many of our campers are most excited for the Etgar tower (Challenge), tubing in the lake, and making lots of new friends! “

Emily Rothstein (Tzofim): “TZOFIM GIMMEL IS HERE!! We have been waiting all summer for this day to come! With 100 chanichim joining Tzofim we have never been happier. Our eating area has become crowded, our beit tefilah fills all the way to the last row, and every single tent has been welcomed by smiling and excited chanichim and madrichim. These next 4 weeks will be jam packed with so many activities like a hiking trip for our 7th graders, Oconomostock (our all-camp talent show), slipnslides, playing in the refet, harvesting vegetables from our gan, and so much more! The Tzofim madrichim and chanichim are ready for a summer they will never forget!!

Evan Richter (Tiferet): “Tiferet Bet begins!! Words can not describe how excited I was to see the faces of the new and old Jewish artists as they enter OSRUI’s gates.  Right of the bat the campers of Tiferet Bet greeted each other with open arms picking up exactly where they left off about a year ago.  After opening day died down, Tiferet headed back to their home base of the beit am and began delving into Shiroshireem (song of songs), the limud theme of the session.  Through poetry and art they began to explore the words and phrases of song of songs and what they mean to them, through their interpretations they decorated our beit am and really made their mark on the unit.  I  can not wait to see what else these campers create and what amazing discoveries they make throughout the session.”

Becky Dolinko (Gesher)
: “Gesher Gimmel has arrived! It was a great first day in the G-Unit. All the staff was so excited to welcome the chanichim to camp for what I know will be an amazing session. Tonight, we completed an activity that allowed the campers to think about a fear that they had, and throw that fear into a burning fire. This signifies the importance of facing fears, and working to conquer our fears in a safe environment at camp. We then wrote letters to ourselves, and we will open these letters on the last night of camp, to gauge our growth throughout the session. We are excited to jump into our daily schedule, have our two chugim, and experience everything OSRUI has to offer!”

Eli Danson (Mosh): “Mosh Bet is the time in camp when the chanichim transition from being children into being young adults. The tzevet of Moshavah this year is committed to ensuring that the potential of every chanich and chanicha is tapped into and seen on a day to day basis. To help facilitate this process, Mosh Bet chanichim are given much more freedom and responsibility to grow and discover who they are and what they stand for. The main resource we as a tzevet use for this transition is the four day tiyul. The distance covered each day is longer, we carry more gear, and the chanichim are offered to step into leadership roles that were not offered in Mosh Aleph. Because so much time is spent on our tiyulim, the time at camp is cherished by campers and makes the activities offered at camp: sports, chugim, swimming, limudim, and Ivrit all the more special. This group of chanichim have already been amazing and have the potential to create an unforgettable summer.”

Adam Kazilsky (Tour L’Agam): “Tour La’Agam is off to a great start! After getting to know each other a little bit, we rode around Lac La Belle to get acquainted with our bikes. Our tan lines are non-existent, we still smell pretty good, and everybody is excited to begin this life changing experience. We will ride several more times this week, including a trip to the Honey Acres honey museum, as well as to the original Trek bicycle factory in Waterloo, where we will be led on a private, behind the scenes tour. It will be a beautiful summer around the lake, and we can’t wait to ride around Lake Michigan!”
