It was August 1st and as the clock struck 7pm, the Bitan seats started filling in as the chanichim (campers) of each eidah (unit) gathered for the most anticipated night of the summer, Oconomostock. During the day Tzofim celebrated our hard work with a huge game of dodge ball, a pool party, and special treats along the way. We made sure to perfect the songs and dances we learned and supported the main characters (played by 7th graders who have been in Tzofim Gimmel for 3 years) as they practiced their lines, their cues, and blocking. The night we had been preparing for all summer long was finally here. As the Bitan filled up, we sang out our nerves to some Hamilton and after honoring staff members who have been on staff for 5 and 10 years the show began. Our chanichim playing the different roshes walked out on stage wearing blindfolds and soon enough our theme, Oconomolost, was revealed. The crowd cheered and Tzofim filled the stage as they sang, “Oconomolost where did they go..” The story continued as we watched the roshes work together to find their way back to camp. After encountering many different people on their journey, Bench Mayim campers and Albert Marks saved the day and helped the roshes get back to camp. The talent by each eidah was exceptional and included original songs, tap dancing, comedy, instrument playing, and lots of singing. We loved watching all of the talent and cheering on our main characters for a night we won’t forget. It was beyond a success and I could not have been more proud of the chanichim who worked so hard to put on an amazing show. Although we are sad O-Stock is over we are so excited for what the next week and a half has in store!
