It has been an awesome week in the G-Unit! We opened our week with an amazing initiation activity to begin the session. We threw our fears in a burning fire to symbolize letting go of our fears, and then followed that by planting a “burning bush” outside of our prayer area. The planting of the bush was used to symbolize planting our roots and setting the foundation for our kehila and community here in Gesher. We have been enjoying all of the amazing things that OSRUI has to offer, such as swimming in the lake and pool, playing sports, learning Ivrit, and of course our two chugim. The chanichim have the opportunity to experience new and innovative chugim, from programming, to leadership, to meditation to arts n crafts, and everything in between. We also had the amazing opportunity to experience our first field trip, where we went to a program called “This is Hunger” by: Mazon. This interactive experience, which took place on a traveling truck, taught us about hunger in our world and ways in which we can play a role in addressing this issue. To help in doing this, the chanichim also made collection boxes to donate to the Oconomowoc Food Pantry, to raise awareness of the issue even further. We had a wonderful first Shabbat together and strengthened our connections among the Gesher community, by participating in Shabbat Shira and spending Shabbat with all of camp. We can’t wait to spend this next week together continuing to strengthen our connections and create memories together.

As this week comes to a close and I reflect on the past week, I think about all the great opportunities I had to talk with our chanichim. They truly are wonderful! I went around during sports time and asked many of the chanichim as well as the Gesher staff, to tell me one word that encapsulates their week at camp. I gathered all these words to generate a wordle (word cloud) to represent the thoughts about this week. Enjoy!

Bye for now!
