Shabbat Chukat 2017

“The Attitude of Gratitude”

What an amazing second week it has been at OSRUI. After a week of limmud (learning), omanut (art), water slides, tubing, wilderness trips, ivrit (Hebrew), field trips, evening programs, and so much more, Shabbat is here, a sacred and beloved time at camp.

This Shabbat is a bittersweet one as this Sunday we bid farewell to most of our campers in Kallah Aleph, Tzofim Aleph, and Gesher Aleph.  This is not goodbye, but l’hitraot, see you next time!

Before we get clean and we put on our Friday night best, before we join together in prayer, before we tune our guitar strings and warm up our voices, before we prepare to rest, we take a look back at the incredible week that was week 2 of Summer 2017.

Yom Avodah (work day) in Chalutzim was a smashing success as the chanichim (campers) did a wonderful mitzvah by cleaning up a local park.  You can read all about it on our blog.  Chalutzim pulled off an epic mannequin challenge during sports and they explored religious connections to the land of Israel and had their first cabin night.

Moshavah Aleph completed their first tyiulim (trips) going hiking, biking, rock climbing and canoeing.  Everyone is back at camp safe, happy, and clean! Do not worry or do not fret even more as they leave again next Sunday for trip two!  Each trip shared their amazing memories, adventures, and excitement from their journeys with the rest of the eidot (units) through tiyul skits and a pool party!

Gesher Aleph had a great week full of awesome fun, lasting friendships, and amazing memories.  Erev Tzrif (cabin night) included a visit to Susan’s house, a boat ride on a pontoon, a kickball game, a sundae bar, and a bonfire with s’mores.  They held their Teva (nature) Olympics Tochnit Boker (morning program) where they competed in different relays all related to conservation and taking care of teva.  Thursday night was Erev Tzahal (army night) with our mishlachat (Israeli staff) and a movie/pizza party!  Everything is great in the horseshoe!  They are so pumped for Shabbat, banquet, and Beit Cafe but are so sad to leave us on Sunday!

Tiferet had a fun-filled week of art, dance, drama (the good kind), media, and music that was highlighted with a tiyul to the park where art and nature collide. They started the week with a visit to etgar (the Alpine Tower), spent the day in the marketplace, and celebrated Torah. The visual art and dance studio collaborated on drawing the human body followed by night studio, doing art in the dark.

Kibbutz HaTzofim had quite a week to remember!  They welcomed goats, sheep, and chickens to their refet (farm).  They had a great time at a pool party and had many, many dance parties!  Yom Twin was an exciting day and they had two great Israel programs to learn about Shvil Yisrael (The Israel Trail).  They learned to make pita and what it’s like to serve in the Israel Defense Force. Chanichim are so excited for Shabbat, banquet, and Beit Cafe but are so sad that Tzofim Aleph ends on Sunday!

Kallah had a great week staying dry and having fun despite the rain.  Everyone has gone tubing, pontooning, and kayaking and they had an amazing pool party with music, Bosco sticks, and extended swim time.  Over 200 water balloons were hurled with glee at our water fight.  Yesterday was tie-dye Thursday with their limited edition Kallah Aleph shirts.  They are so pumped for Shabbat, banquet, and Beit Cafe but are so sad to see Kallah Aleph end on Sunday! It has been an amazing and exciting second week.
