Shabbat D’varim 2017

“Our stories, like our lives, are ever changing”
Rabbi Julie Wolkoff

What an amazing sixth week it has been at OSRUI.

After a week of limud (Jewish learning), omanut (art), water slides, tubing, wilderness trips, ivrit (Hebrew), field trips, evening programs, and so much more, Shabbat is here, a sacred and beloved time at camp.

Before we get clean and we put on our Friday night best, before we join together in prayer, before we tune our guitar strings and warm up our voices, before we prepare to rest, we take a look back at the incredible week that was week six of Summer 2017.

Chalutzim continued their ivrit immersion in their various kitot (classes). They picked their new sichot (electives) and got back into the routine of camp after last week of Yom Horim and the canoe trip.  The week was highlighted by Yom Tzahal which was a simulation of the IDF, a fun pool party, and an education program on the political parties of Israel.

Tiferet had an amazing week of art, dance, drama (the good kind), media, and music that was highlighted with a tiyul to the Milwaukee Art Museum and custard at the Northpoint beach.  On Monday night, Trattoria Tiferet, the one night only, chanichim inspired, pop-up restaurant opened for baked ziti night to much critical acclaim and praise, and then immediately closed.  They had a wonderful artists night and spent a morning in the marketplace at a pool party.  They are excited to welcome Shabbat, perform in O-Stock and work on their art in studio.

Moshavah Bet completed their first trip (learn about the trips here!) going hiking, biking, rock climbing and canoeing.  Everyone is back at camp safe, happy, and clean!  They are so excited for a “normal” week at camp doing all their favorite camp activities. Each trip shared their memories, adventures, and excitement from their journeys with the rest of the eidot.

Gesher Gimmel went on their first tiyul (trip) to Comedy Sportz in Milwaukee and to the McKinley Marina beach for lunch.  They had a great erev tzrif (cabin night) that included such events as etgar, boat rides, camp fires and s’mores.  They started their preparation for Carnival and played an incredible game of Capture the Flag.  It was a wonderful week in G-Unit and the Gesh 8th & 9th graders can’t wait for their rock climbing trip coming up next week!  It’s an exciting time in the horseshoe.

Kibbutz HaTzofim had a fun-filled week that included lots of prep for Oconomostock, the camp-wide talent show hosted by Tzofim.  The main characters in O-stock were revealed at a yummy dinner to meet the people they are playing in the show.  Campers played British Hagannah and had a wonderful erev ohel (tent night) where they played trivia, decorated high socks for high sock Thursday, and made funnel cakes.  They have been learning about being truthful and good members of their community through fun, interactive games!

Kallah Gimmel finished an amazing second week with Facepaint Friday!  This week they celebrated Yom Red, Wet, and Blue with popsicles, a pizza pool party, and a water fight.  They love their new chugim and are so excited to try them all out.  Erev Tzrif was great fun and featured science night, s’mores, and so much more!  They cannot wait to celebrate Shabbat and attend O-stock!

It has been an incredible and exciting sixth week here at OSRUI!!  We cannot wait for the all- camp talent show Oconomostock, hosted by Tzofim, on Saturday night and then to celebrate Jerry and Paula with the #Commemorate48 concert on Sunday night!  Both events will be live streamed on our Facebook page starting at 6:45pm.

Shabbat Shalom from all of us at OSRUI!
