Everyone is happy, smiling, and enjoying their first days at camp! It’s so amazing to see the smiles, the laughter, and the friendships forming after only a few days. One of the moments I’m most inspired each day is during our morning t’filah (service), when I’ve really seen the ruach (spirit) of our Kallah chanichim (campers). Each morning we say a prayer called Nisim B’chol Yom, blessing each of our daily miracles. In Kallah, we ask the chanichim to share special daily miracles that they’ve experienced so far at camp, and their answers have been incredible. So far, over the past two days, answers have included:
- Making new friends
- Good food
- OSRUI
- Amazing counselors
- Swimming
- Trying new things
- Sleeping in cabins
- Having fun
I can’t wait to see how their answers evolve over the rest of our session, since we have so much more fun in store for Kallah! For example, this morning we had Boker Tzrif (cabin morning), where the chanichim spent time doing fun activities all around camp with all the kids in their tzrif. Some programs included facepainting, movie making, pranking, army morning, and slime making. We even had a cereal party! Tonight, we’re having s’mores, and we’re looking forward to our chugim (specially chosen activities like dance, art, sports, etc.) and of course, our first shabbat together as an eidah (unit)!
Sara, our Kallah Rosh Eidah, is celebrating her 15th summer at OSRUI, and her 6th on staff. When not at camp, she works as a full-time nanny, and in her spare time, she loves to travel to new places, find the greatest restaurants, and read books.
