By Shira Brandhandler, Tzofim Rosh Eidah (Unit Head)

The first few days of Tzofim Aleph have been full of fun and excitement! Our staff were working hard to prepare for the chanichim (campers) to arrive for the last 2 weeks, and we were so happy for them to finally get here on Monday! After it being mostly quiet in our unit, it has been truly amazing to hear Tzofim come alive filled with laughter, and to see everyone playing together on the hill.

To end the first full day of camp we had erev ohel (tent night), which are special programs in our tents planned by the madrichim (counselors). This was a great way for everyone to bond with their tents and make some new friends! Some highlights from erev ohel included a relaxing spa night, scavenger hunts, beautifying our fire pit and making s’mores, and decorating knee high socks for high sock Thursday.

There’s also so much to look forward to in Tzofim! Today the chanichim are experiencing their first high sock Thursday, a great Tzofim tradition! We are also doing an egg toss off of the Etgar tower, and starting to plant our gan (garden). Tomorrow is also the first Shabbat of the summer, where we’ll eat a delicious meal with all of camp, and then all come together in the new Heichal HaTarbut Kaye for Shabbat Shira (Shabbat song session)! We’ve already had a wonderful first couple days together in Tzofim, and we’re so excited to continue the fun!

Shira Brandhandler, our Tzofim Rosh Eidah, is celebrating her 13th summer at camp, and her 6th on staff. In May, she graduated from the University of Michigan, where she studied Biopsychology, Cognition, & Neuroscience, as well as Judaic Studies.
