SHABBAT D’VARIM 2015
It was a big week for field trips at OSRUI! Tiferet and Gesher both went on day-long tiyulim (trips) and Moshavah left on their first 4-day tiyul.
Tiferet went to the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Lynden Sculpture Garden. Campers got a tour of the museum with our art specialists, Ohad and Hannah, and then explored the sculptures through the perspective of their art.
Gesher visited the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center with their staff and Rabbis Prass and Spilker, focusing on the theme of social justice. After that, they zipped over to the Oconomowoc Band Shell for a special treat from the local gelato store.
Yesterday Kallah campers got a chance to buddy with Gesher. The program got off to a great start with Slip ‘n Slunch…a combination of slip ‘n sliding and lunch!! The afternoon was filled with great programs and dinner was in the Kaye’s backyard, with grilled hamburgers, veggie burgers, salad and the fixin’s. They finished out the night with their “buddies” sitting around a campfire singing folk songs and enjoying lots of delicious s’mores.
Moshavah campers went on their tiyulim, hiking, biking, rock climbing and canoeing. Although the trips are very different, the one aspect that is the same on every tiyul is teamwork. Be sure to read rosh eidah Lizzy Scheinkopf’s blog about what the campers learn about working together on their tiyulim.
Kibbutz HaTzofim has been working like crazy putting together this year’s Oconomostock – the all-camp talent show that they sponsor. This, along with their gan (garden), refet (farm) and more, sure kept them very busy.
Some of our Chalutzim campers had lunch at the top of the Alpine Tower, others worked on their Fantasy Football picks while paddling around Lac La Belle in a pontoon boat with Max Weinberg. Two Hebrew kitot (classes) had breakfast pontoon rides, tzrif (cabin) Tel Aviv won the prize for speaking the most Hebrew last week and got to take a bike ride to the above mentioned gelato store in downtown Oconomowoc. Today we had a special Hebrew lesson focusing on the theme of Shabbat to Me, where the campers got to experience Shabbat descriptions for each of their madrichim and collect special Shabbat spices. Along the way we had Sports Night and an educational evening program focused on the many maps of Israel.
Tour La’Agam had a great week on the road and are celebrating Shabbat and enjoying some well-deserved rest in Manistique, MI.
Avodah Corps, in addition to their usual rounds, dug open the OSRUI Geniza, where we “bury” holy books from our congregations as part of commemorating Tisha b’Av…this has become an annual tradition here at camp.
As you can see, it’s been a great week! Want to know more? Check out all the wonderful blogs that will give you a great taste of what’s going on at OSRUI. https://blogs.rj.org/osrui/
