By Deborah Goldberg, Tzofim Rosh Eidah
The past week in Tzofim has been amazing! We’ve had several busy days together and have been taking advantage of all camp has to offer. On Thursday, all of camp joined together for the Maccabiah games. Chanichim were split into four colors (red, white, blue and silver) and competed in several activities throughout the day. Abraham Lincoln (played by one of camp’s talented specialists, Ben Schillmoeller) joined us for the day to add to the Fourth of July festivities. We continued celebrating Fourth of July on Saturday night with the Star Spangled Mesibah. Tiferet hosted the all camp talent show and it was a wonderful way to finish the week. Sam and Gabi from Tzofim both performed, and they did a great job! After the Mesibah, Tiferet led us in Havadallah and then we all went to Bayit Hill to watch the firework.
The chanichim have continued working on creating their Jewish superheroes, which we’ve started calling the Super Chevrah! Today, we talked about the phrase in the Torah “Tzedek tzedek tirdof”—justice, justice shall you puruse. We went all around Tzofim to learn about instances where we can take the lead on pursuing justice. We wrapped up our limud today by asking all the chanichim to think about ways they can be proactive in pursuing justice, both at camp and away from camp when the session ends on Sunday. The chanichim have continued planning T’fillot and have been so thoughtful with what they’ve shared. Last night, The Incredible Va’ad led T’fillot and the chanichim talked ways we can be good friends at camp.
Tonight, the madrichim are planning really great programs for erev ohel. The chanichim really enjoy a night of programming that is done within each ohel and I know they’re going to have a great time tonight. Tomorrow night, all of camp will join together for Festikayitz, a performance hosted by the Israelis at camp that is designed to teach chanichim about Israel in a creative way. Some Tzofim chanichin will perform in Festikayitz tomorrow night, and I know Tzofim will cheer with all our ruach for them. Tzofim is also looking forward to spending our last Shabbat together as an eidah. We’ll be making our own spice bags on Friday morning and talking about ways that we can take pieces of camp home with us. It’s been a great session so far and I’m looking forward to the next few days together. I will be so sad to see Tzofim Bet come to a close!
