We are thrilled to introduce the Rosh Eidah of Tiferet, Becca Levy! Becca will be a senior in the fall at Western Michigan University where she is studying Theatrical Stage Management. Learn some more about Becca:
How many years have you been at camp?
This is my ninth summer total at OSRUI. I was a camper in Kallah, Tiferet (twice) , Mosh (also twice!), and Chalutzim. This is my fourth summer on staff, first I was a machon in Tiferet and Mosh, then a madricha in Tiferet for two summers and now I am returning to camp as Rosh of Tiferet and I couldn’t be more excited!
What is your favorite meal at camp?
It depends on what meal you’re asking about! I think overall I would definitely say Mac and Cheese for lunch, but Saturday night cook-out Veggie Burgers comes in a close second.
What is your favorite all-camp event?
Mesibah, of course! As a Tiferet camper I loved performing in the “Mesibah with Bubbe and Zayde.” Now, watching all the chanichim perform in shtick and their own acts and seeing how talented all of them are is a highlight of each summer! And who doesn’t love a good fireworks show?
What is your favorite Shabbat afternoon lunch?
Bar-Mitzvah brunch, definitely! How can you go wrong with blintzes, kugel, and latkes?
What is your favorite aquatic activity?
I’m a huge fan of kayaking and canoeing, there’s nothing like going out onto Lac LaBelle in a small group of canoes and kayaks while playing games and telling stories!
What is your favorite Yom Day (themed days)?
I love Yom Mis-match, because then people’s true style comes out. You’ll see me in short-er-alls (think overalls but as shorts), two different patterned and heights of socks, different shoes, lots of patterns, and crazy hair, and I couldn’t be more comfortable! Tiferet also does “Yom Shakespeare” where the whole Eidah will speak in Elizabethan English and British accents all day, There are always a lot of laughs on Yom Shakespeare!
What is your best camp memory?
What a huge question! I think that first moment you drive into camp every summer is always full of excitement and nerves and a kind of joy that you can’t find anywhere else. No matter if you are a camper, a staff member, or just visiting, there’s something about the atmosphere of camp when you first get there that can’t be explained, except that you know you’re in a very special place and there’s no where else you would rather be.
Becca is counting down the days until Tiferet begins…she can’t wait to work with the wonderful chanichim (campers) and make amazing omanut (art)!
