SHABBAT BALAK 2015
In a few hours lots of you will be celebrating the 4th of July with BBQ’s, parties and fireworks, but here at OSRUI we have been celebrating all week. Monday was opening day for Kallah and Tzofim with a smooth opening that got all of our campers in place after lunch and before the rain fell. Of course, the smiling faces then brought a wonderful sunny day.
Monday was a great day for all our units! Moshavah left that day on their 2nd tiyul (trip), with everyone ready to go hiking, biking, rock climbing or canoeing with even more excitement, strength and ambition than before. They came back on Wednesday with incredible energy, making their time in camp doing “regular” activities even more special.
Chalutzim went to the park on Monday and then off to a movie for the afternoon where they saw “Inside Out” and enjoyed popcorn and treats. Thursday was Yom Tzahal (Army Day) when our Israeli staff taught them about army life, with the campers marching in order and cleaning with enthusiasm.
Tiferet went to the Milwaukee Discovery Museum on Monday, where they explored the museum and related different exhibits to each medium. After a great day, they headed to the movies, too! In addition to their normal studio activities, they have been rehearsing for the Star Spangled Mesibah, the talent show Tiferet produces, which features acts from every unit in camp. We can’t wait to see our campers on stage! Tiferet went to each unit to preview the Mesibah … watch on our video page.
Kallah is having a pool party today and had lots of fun at cabin night with their counselors arranging special activities for each bunk. Kibbutz HaTzofim enjoyed tent night as well, in addition to a great week in Tzofim with the gan (garden) and refet (farm), which are just two of the things that make Tzofim so special.
Wednesday night the whole camp participated in the Judaica Bowl and it was amazing to see how much our campers really know. Yesterday there was a presentation for the whole camp about people with special needs, with the folks from Handicap This! spreading their message of tolerance and inclusion.
Last night a number of our Board members came out to put on a big pool party with food, chair massages and more for our staff…everyone just loved the break and had a wonderful evening. Many thanks to all who helped make this a great evening for our staff, who work so hard teaching and caring for all of our campers.

Right now everyone is having fun and preparing for Shabbat and getting excited for tomorrow night’s talent show and fireworks!
Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom and a safe and happy 4th!
