A Message to Machonikkim Regarding College Orientation
We understand that many of you will need to leave camp to attend your college orientation. Please note these guidelines:

  1. Do not plan to leave during staff orientation or on the opening or closing day of a session. If this is an issue, contact Dylan Singer - dmsinger@urj.org.
  2. Dates should be submitted in writing to Dylan Singer for approval.
  3. OSRUI does not provide transporation to or from the airport for staff on days other than your initial arrival to camp and departure at the end of the summer. If you need transportation for your college orientation trip, you can stop in the camp office a few days before you leave and we'll help you make a reservation with Oconomowoc Transport.

How to Get Internship Credit for Working at OSRUI

For those of you looking to get even more out of being on staff at OSRUI, camp can count as an internship!! It’s a great way to make working at camp in coming summers a more viable and legitimate option for employment. For two summers, staff member Daniel Shore had the career center on his campus (at Bradley University) document his summer job at OSRUI as a psychology internship; he even got class credit for it!! Working with children, and particularly campers with special needs, qualified as preparation for becoming a psychologist. The first summer Daniel chose to register it as an internship and also pay for it to count for class credit; the next summer he simply had it registered as a returning paid internship (which looks great on a college transcript).  You don’t have to be a psychology major to make this work for you: Jewish studies, education/teaching, or even social work are other possibilities.
