Blown Away by Camp
I grew up at Jewish summer camp, went to Jewish day school, and have been a Jewish community professional for a decade. And despite my lifetime immersion in Jewish life, I have spent the last three days since I arrived at OSRUI with a perpetual smile on my face, blown away by the campers’ enthusiasm, the educators’ talents, and the counselors’ commitment.
First Trips in Moshavah!
We are looking forward to a great week in camp, with many all-camp events approaching. We can’t wait to find out what the Oconomostock theme is!
A Great Week in Gesher!
In the next week we will be traveling to Madison to lobby our state senators on hunger. This will give the chanichim a chance to learn about community service on a macro level. While we are there we will also take some time for a little bit of fun and games in the city.
The Power of Hebrew at Camp
I am grateful for pioneering work done by my predecessors. I am pleased to work with my partners on the Chalutzim faculty. And I am proud of the campers Sh’mdabrin Rak Ivrit, who speak only Hebrew.
A Chance to be Themselves
I heard the counselor say, “Let me tell you. You are a good person. You are special and important and there are people who love you.”
Shabbat Shalom from OSRUI!
This week at OSRUI featured OSRUI’s 60th Anniversary Concert, the Judaica Bowl and FestiKayitz (Summerfest) along with tubing and horseback riding and climbing the high ropes course and lots of other fun activities. Everyone is ready for a restful Shabbat.
One Week Left!
Our Hebrew Olympics are almost at an end and the race is close between all of the Tzrifim (Cabins). Everyone is trying to win it for their cabin so we hear Rak Ivrit (Only Hebrew) being spoken by the campers throughout the entire day.
A Walk in the Woods (Mosh Style)
In terms of learning group responsibly, everyone is expected to pull their own weight, the group does not move forward until every hiker takes some of the group gear and if there is one hiker who is struggling the to keep up bit is up to everyone in the group to help and encourage him or her. Afterall on a hike as in life, we are, our brother’s keepers.
60 Years of Ruach Highlights!
We had a great time last weekend celebrating 60 years of OSRUI! Check out the highlights of the event here!
A Day at the Art Museum!
The museum visit will continue to be part of the shared Tiferet Bet experience. It will influence the way that we see the world, the creative risks we take, how we interpret Song of Songs, experience prayer, how we relate to one another and think about our unit.
From Floppy Disks to the Cloud
The paper method was followed by folders with floppy disks which stored our programs and now today all our educational martial is stored in Google Docs which allows us to share and edit material from year to year. Our limud are both figuratively and spiritually in the clouds and I believe both can not be any closer to God.
Confessions of a Campy Mom
Actress, writer, mom, and OSRUI Alum Sandy Rustin reminisces about her summers at OSRUI.
The First Week of Tzofim Gimmel
I am confident that the next three weeks in Tzofim Gimmel will be full of the same kinds of experiences for our campers and I know that all the madrichim (counselors) want to give our campers the same amazing summers our counselors gave us.
The Value of Hebrew at Camp
Modern Hebrew has the capacity, in a sublimely inductive way to bring children into Jewish life and to enable them to feel intellectually and emotionally connected to our rich, ever-evolving and unique community.
The Value of a Picture at Camp
The pictures are a great way to begin to understand all that is OSRUI and a great conversation starter for when your children return and you want to try to know and understand all that they have been through. Let’s remember, however, that they are only a snapshot, a moment in time.
