Some Things Never Change

I’ve had the unique privilege of being a chanicha (camper), madricha (counselor), rosh eidah (unit head) and now segel (faculty) here at OSRUI. It’s inspiring to see so many former chaninichim (campers) now as madrichim (counselors), and to see traditions passed on year after year.

Effortless Shabbat

At camp, Shabbat is not something that I have to make because, at camp, Shabbat is something that simply is–in it’s purest and most authentic form. Just imagine one full day, from sundown to sundown, where you get to sing, share, eat, play, pray, rest, and be with people you love.

Canoe Trip, Yom Horim and an Evening of Ruach

We had a wonderful time canoeing together, setting up camp, cooking Israeli food, and we even enjoyed the rain that we had! We also have a new addition to our eidah- “Dag Jelly” (Hebrew for Jelly Fish) our new mascot which we all dearly love!

A View to the Past with an Eye to the Future: The Reform Movement Celebrates 60 Years of Camping

The Reform Movement celebrates 60 Years of Jewish Camping at OSRUI this weekend. But with all the developments and expansions over the years, OSRUI Director Jerry Kaye explains that the most important place at camp is not the arts or sports centers; it’s a simple log on the ground with a youngster on one end and a caring rabbi or counselor on the other end, learning together to love Judaism.
